The purpose of the net is to enable fellow licensed amateur radio operators who are operating in the /MM mode to have a scheduled radio contact with a shore station who can:

1: Accept DISTRESS and EMERGENCY messages and take action as appropriate.

2: Accept daily positions and/or progress reports from vessels as appropriate.

2: Have access to the latest up to date weather information available on the internet, without the vessels themselves having to have internet facilities on board.

3: To have ready access to other amateur /MM Net Controllers throughout the world by use of the e-mail facilities with which the 3W's Net has access. (This facility is particularly useful in the daily transfer of vessels between nets, as appropriate to Lat/Long Position, Destination, etc).

4: Assist /MM vessels in on-line tracking of any spares dispatched by courier services that have that facility available on the internet.
